The Duk Lost Boys Clinic

Here in America, and especially in New York City, we often take for granted the abundance of medical facilities available to us.
If we are sick we can go to one of the thousands of physicians for medicine that we will be able to afford thanks to our health insurance. If we need more dire medical attention there are more than a dozen top rated hospitals in our area.
The point I’m trying to make is that we are very fortunate. However, many people are not. In the remote area of Southern Sudan, there are very few medical facilities. If you lived in Duk County, you would have to travel 75 miles (probably by foot) in order to be seen at a medical clinic. Most of us can hardly imagine crawling to our cushy jobs when we don’t feel well, let alone 75 blistering hot miles!
John Dau, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan featured in the award winning documentary, God Grew Tired of Us and president of the non-profit organization, Direct Change, has decided to change that. He recently raised enough money to build the first medical facility in this seemingly forgotten region of Africa. Duk Lost Boys Clinic will serve the surviving residents of Southern Sudan as well as the new refugees brought in by the Red Cross. The facility will be able to treat malaria, dehydration and other illnesses as well as assist with the labor and delivery of Sudan’s hopeful future.
Please help us to bring a little of what we take for granted everyday to a people that so desperately need it!
Thank you!
