I recently saw the follow-up to the documentary, “Lost Boys of Sudan”, entitled, “God Grew Tired of Us” and I was intensely moved. My first reaction was of anger and then of wanting to move to action. The film also caused me to reflect on all the material things that I possess. These young men left their country with barely the shirts on their backs, no food, no shoes and made the dangerous trek to Kenya. How many of us could do that?
Please assist Direct Change in supporting this project that will provide direct financial support to organizations in Uganda and Kenya to provide education and job training to the “Lost Boys” that remained in Africa.
And if the film comes to your area, I encourage you to take your friends and family to see it. You will be moved beyond measure!

Lost Boys Education

In the late 1980’s over 25,000 children (mostly boys) were forced by violence from their homes in southern Sudan on a journey that led them first to Ethiopia and then several years later to a refugee camp in Kenya. In 2001, a group of almost 4,000 of these “Lost Boys of Sudan” were brought to the United States leaving behind thousands of others in the refugee camp.

The Sudan Project

While relative peace has come to the southern Sudan, decades of civil war has left the region without the basic infrastructure for programs such as education and healthcare.
As the feature film “God Grew Tired of Us” has raised awareness of the issues of southern Sudan and of the plight of the “Lost Boys of Sudan,” John Dau (one of “Lost Boys” featured in the film) created this project to both educate the public on how they can have an impact AND to provide direct financial assistance to improve the delivery of healthcare and education in the southern Sudan as well as provide education to the Lost Boys in Africa.
